Iron Man's Marvel Comics premiere in Tales of Suspense #39 (cover dated March 1963) was a collaboration among editor and story-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, story-artist Don Heck, and cover-artist and character-designer Jack Kirby. Lee said that "of all comic catalogs we released at Marvel, we got more fan email for Iron Man from women, from females, than some other name....We didn't get much admirer mail from women, but if we did, the letter was resolved to Iron Man.Lee and Kirby included Iron Man within the Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963) as a founding person in the superhero team. The type has since made an appearance in every subsequent volume of the series. .
