While Lee intended to write the complete tale himself, a minor deadline emergency pressured him to hand in the premiere issue to Lieber eventually, who fleshed out the history.[8] The art was split between Kirby and Heck. "He designed the costume," Heck said of Kirby, "because the cover had been done by him. The covers were always done first.
