Iron Man's Marvel Comics premiere in Tales of Suspense #39 (cover dated March 1963) was a cooperation among editor and story-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, story-artist Don Heck, and cover-artist and character-designer Jack Kirby. While Lee designed to write the story himself, a deadline disaster eventually required him at hand on the premiere issue to Lieber, who fleshed out the tale.[8] The art was split between Kirby and Heck. Lee said that "of all the comic books we released at Marvel, we received more fan email for Iron Man from women, from females, than another title....We didn't get much admirer mail from young ladies, but whenever we did, the letter was usually tackled to Iron Man.Lee and Kirby included Iron Man within the Avengers #1 (Sept. 1963) as a founding person in the superhero team.
