Iron Man's Marvel Comics premiere in Stories of Suspense #39 (cover dated March 1963) was a collaboration among editor and story-plotter Stan Lee, scripter Larry Lieber, story-artist Don Heck, and character-designer and cover-artist Jack Kirby. In 1963, Lee had been toying with the thought of a businessman superhero. While Lee intended to write the complete history himself, a deadline emergency pressured him to hand over the premiere issue to Lieber eventually, who fleshed out the story.[8] The art was split between Kirby and Heck.
